Green Building
Overview
On March 15, 2006, the Windsor Town Council approved a voluntary Green Building program promoting Green Building practices as the standard for all new residential and commercial construction. On January 1, 2008, the Green Building practices became mandatory.

Definition of Green Building
Green Building is the use of construction materials and design criteria that deliver long-lasting and improved performance over conventional building practices. Green buildings are:
  • More comfortable
  • Efficient
  • Healthier compared to conventionally designed and constructed buildings

Benefits
Benefits of green building practices are seen in the areas of:
  • Durability
  • Ease of maintenance
  • Energy and water consumption
  • Efficient re-use and recycling of materials
  • Lower greenhouse gas emissions
  • Better indoor air quality
