To initiate action by Animal Care and Control:
- The first offended resident must contact the Animal Shelter with the mailing address of the owner of the barking dog and the name and address of the resident who is reporting the complaint. Complaint Form
- Within a week, the County will mail to the owner of the barking dog a "bark packet" which includes a letter that references the Public Nuisance Ordinance and educational information and advice on how to restrain a dog from barking.
- Upon receipt of a signed written statement from a second resident, an Animal Control Officer will serve the dog owner with an abatement order.
- Should the barking nuisance continue, the officer will prepare and submit a report to the Town Attorney to abate the nuisance, and a violation of an abatement order will be filed as a misdemeanor.
